The award-winning Kew Wind Orchestra takes to the stage at 7.30pm on Saturday 13 October 2012 at Brentford's Musical Museum for an exciting concert celebrating heroism in all its diverse forms.
The highlight of the Heroes Concert will be the world premiere of Ella Jarman-Pinto's 'I remember. Like I'm the Only' commissioned under Making Music's "Adopt a Composer" scheme. Ella was inspired by the five women in the Row for Freedom team who rowed across the Atlantic, breaking two world records whilst raising awareness of human trafficking.
Julia Immonen, Debbie Beadle, Helen Leigh, Kate Richardson and Katie Pattison-Hart became the first five-woman team to row any ocean and broke the world record for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic ocean by an all-female team, completing the 2,613 mile-long crossing from The Canary Islands to Barbados in just 45 days 15 hours and 26 minutes.
"The story of Row For Freedom inspired me not only for the awareness that it raised about human trafficking for many people, including myself, but also for the sheer strength that these five women demonstrated in doing so" says Ella.
Kew Wind Orchestras performance of Ella's new piece is being recorded at the concert by the BBC for broadcast on Radio 3.??The concert also includes the well known Olympic Fanfare and Theme by Star Wars composer John Williams, Karel Husa's Music for Prague 1968 and Jan van der Roost's Spartacus.
